JUNE 28 Nyah Mway was returning home from an 8th grade graduation barbecue with his friend. He was stopped by 3 officers. When the officers asked to pat him down, Nyah fled and resulted in an officer chasing and tackling him down.
JUNE 28 Nyah was punched twice while the officer sat on top of him as officer Patrick Husnay runs up, punched him, and shot him point blank on the chest. He was given first aid at the scene but later died at Wynn Hospital.
JUNE 29 Utica Police Department (UPD) held a live press conference at 10 a.m. UPD released additional details about the shooting. Later that night, the community organized a vigil in honor of Nyah, which took place on Shaw Street (the site of the shooting).
JUNE 30 The New York Attorney General’s Office of Special Investigation has launched a probe into the death of 13-year-old Nyah Mway of Utica. Full body camera videos from the Utica Police Department officers involved were released to the public.

JULY 1 Hundreds of members from Utica’s Karen community and others came to City Hall in Utica to demand justice for Nyah Mway from the Utica Common Council.
